After witnessing several injustices happen in my life, I decided that I wanted to help people by securing justice for everyone. Additionally, I knew that I wanted to understand how people think and use my love of chemistry to do this. This pushed me to pursue majors in forensic chemistry and psychology - two great programs at WVU. Although I had almost decided on WVU by the time I toured it, the campus' welcoming feeling and the kindness of my student tour guides solidified my decision. I am beyond happy with my choice in WVU.
What is your favorite Mountaineer memory?
My favorite Mountaineer memory was going to dinner with my friends from my calculus class after our exam. Despite it being almost ten o'clock at night and us having stood around the testing hall talking for about twenty minutes, we still took the time to get ourselves some food and relax after the test. It was really enjoyable as the community spirit and inclusiveness fostered has carried on throughout the semester, making our class feel more like a family.
Why did you want to become a PSA?
In today's day, people always feel excluded and like no one is like or understands them. As I have felt this way, I want to inform others that they are not alone. I hope to use my love for others to make them feel loved and to foster a community that everyone can grow in. I also want to encourage everyone that no goal is too great and that support is around every corner.
What did you learn from the PSA experience?
Although I learned a lot from the PSA experience, the most important thing I learned was not to discredit small actions. Many put so much emphasis on large, flashy actions, but the PSA program taught me that it is the small things that truly matter. The various volunteer activities we did this semester that were small and not well advertised taught me differently, however. They taught me that even when your actions go unnoticed, they are still important. In short, even if the action seems small, the ripples it creates makes it immensely influential.
