Ashley Eby spent her summer 2019 break in Washington, DC, working as an intern for
United States Senator Shelley Moore Capito.
Ashley stated:
“As a native West Virginian with a profound interest in politics, I had always aspired to work for West Virginia’s constituents.
The legislative experience that I gained working for Senator Capito was especially useful because it combined my political interests with my passion for science. I am currently pursuing dual degrees in Chemistry and Psychology, so I was able to utilize my scientific knowledge when interacting with science-based legislation. For example, I spent most of my time attending hearings and researching legislation relating to Liquefied Natural Gas. This gave me exposure to policy and the technical scientific concepts needed to understand energy production. From both a personal and academic perspective, the internship experience was eye-opening, and I am grateful to have worked in such an encouraging environment. I am beyond excited to keep serving the Mountain State in the years ahead!”
