One of the most engaging classes of the semester occurs when a volunteer from APBP visits the class and brings letters from incarcerated individuals who are requesting specific books. This semester, former PSA, Jordan Pugh, led the discussion. As noted on the website (https://appalachianprisonbookproject.org/): "Our work emanates from two interconnected premises: education is a basic human right, and engaging the community in educational justice efforts is a requisite component to building sustainable restorative justice models." APBP sends free books and provides educational opportunities to people imprisoned in six Appalachian states (West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and Maryland). Many of the PSAs are interested in attending the "book wrapping" events this semester.
