Thank you to two-time Grammy award winner, advocate/activist, and (Cross Lanes) West Virginia native Kathy Mattea for speaking to the Presidential Student Ambassadors in February about her journey from West Virginia University to become one of the most respected figures in country music. Telling us to “trust our inner voice,” she offered many words of wisdom, one of my favorites being, “If you look at something as a crisis, then it’s a crisis. If you look at something as an opportunity, then it’s an opportunity.“ A physics/chemistry major, she left WVU at the end of her sophomore year to pursue a career in Nashville. She was twice named Female Vocalist of the Year by the Country Music Association, had four #1 hits, and numerous songs in the Top 10. She received the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award in 2001 and returned to WVU in 2007 to receive a Doctorate of Humane Letters. We are pleased to welcome Kathy back as the new host of Mountain Stage.
