Why did you choose WVU?

Not only did WVU have competitive and amazing scholarships, it also had the remaining infinity stones that I was looking to acquire during my college years. Pursuing a Biology major while still being able to tap into my other interests has allowed me to build an incredible college experience. I am a senator in our Student Government Association, had the chance to be the president of the Muslim Student Association for two years, and was able to take a weight training class... all while staying on track as a pre-med student. WVU allows me to pave my own path in any direction I choose and offers any resources necessary to overcome obstacles.

  • What is the BEST reason to attend WVU?
Grandpa Gee's beautiful bow tie collection and the spontaneous singing of Country Roads is definitely part of the experience. Not only does WVU have countless opportunities for involvement, it also fosters a welcoming, family-like environment that promotes growth, success, and well-being. There really is something for everyone here. If research is your niche, you can work in a lab with zebra fish and/or apply to competitive paid research programs such as SURE. If you are looking to study abroad, you can join a Brigades trip to Nicaragua, spend a semester or year abroad, and even work with ASPIRE to apply to one of the 20 nationally competitive scholarships that over 180 of students have won. If you stay right here at WVU you can immerse yourself in a new environment by joining or attending events by student organizations such as the African Student Association, Culturas WVU, and Arabic Studies Club.
  • What is your favorite Mountaineer memory?
During my freshman year I took a course called ‘Meet Me at the Museum’ where I spent a semester in the WVU Art Museum. I took the class for the fun of it and to take a step out of my comfort zone. Surprisingly, as someone with very little to no interest or knowledge in art, the challenge was exciting. I felt very out of place in the class of under ten art-loving students and spent a good amount of time with the ‘fake it till you make it’ mindset. Learning how to appreciate art and the many different styles and forms was definitely an experience.
  • Why did you want to become a PSA?
Along with my goal to strengthen my public speaking, my experience here at WVU as an Egyptian American Muslim is unique and I wanted to be able to share that with others. As WVU students, we all bring different and integral spices to the dish.
  • What did you learn from the PSA experience?
Ultimately, I realized how blessed I am to be at this university. Being a Presidential Student Ambassador allowed me to reflect on my experiences thus far at WVU, and in doing so, I understand how lucky I am to have had all these unique experiences without leaving my state. There has never been a time that I have wished for something more out of my college experience, and WVU always has what I am looking for. I also learned the importance of advocacy, passion, and effective communication in leadership. This experience has helped me find my purpose as a leader and person... and for that, I am extremely thankful.

SUMMER 2019: After a busy school year serving as President of the Muslim Student Association and being elected senator in the Student Government Association, Noor Dahshan spent a relaxing summer visiting California with her family. Highlights included the San Diego Zoo, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Golden Gate Bridge, Indian restaurants, and lots of time by the ocean!
