WHY DID YOU CHOOSE WVU?

I chose WVU for a multitude of reasons. One of the biggest appealing factors WVU had to offer was the robust outdoor adventure program. I am really passionate about the outdoors and spend all my free time rock climbing, whitewater rafting, or skiing. I was also drawn to the sense of community that WVU has; being here makes me feel as if I belong and I'm a part of something bigger.

What is your favorite Mountaineer memory?

My favorite Mountaineer memory would have to be the cross-country skiing trip I took with Adventure this winter. I was able to connect with so many students and faculty I would have never had the opportunity to meet otherwise, and I was able to make friends in the study abroad program. I also learned a new skill in the process! Overall, it was an incredibly positive experience, and I am beyond thankful that WVU offers those kinds of experiences for students.

Why did you want to become a PSA?

I wanted to become a PSA because it seemed like a fantastic opportunity to advocate for the student issues that matter to me and use my voice as a student here on campus. Being a PSA would allow me to talk directly to faculty about important topics and have my voice be heard.

What did you learn from the PSA experience?

I feel like this class has enhanced my skills as a leader and helped me grow my confidence in just a few short months. I have been more cognizant of how I appear to others when speaking, how to present myself properly, and how to get my message across efficiently and concisely. I have made more of an effort to speak my mind and share my ideas, while doing my best not to diminish the contribution of others in the process.

I feel more confident going forward in my life as a leader and as a person. I cannot say exactly what the future holds for me, but I know I owe Dr. Carolyn Atkins and her Presidential Student Ambassador program a huge thank you in widening my horizons, exposing me to new perspectives, allowing me to speak my mind, and building a fundamental milestone in my ever-changing leadership and service path.
