WHY DID YOU CHOOSE WVU?

In high school, I felt overwhelmed by the thought of picking a college that would become my home away from home over the next several years. I had a large pool of eight potential universities that I considered, and I imagined each as a possible perfect fit for me. However, when I toured WVU as a high school junior, I instantly felt a connection through the on-campus experience, and I immediately knew WVU would be my new home. By my senior year, WVU was the only place that received my application. Being on-campus as a student has only continued to allow me to further realize the benefits of this important decision.

  • What is the BEST reason to attend WVU?
The students, faculty, and staff make WVU unique and special. The University would not be quite the same without these inspiring individuals. WVU offers so many once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, and these experiences are only possible because of staff who are willing to support students’ initiatives. Choosing WVU means that you will be working with these incredible mentors every day. If you love the people at WVU, then this university should be your new home.
  • What is your favorite Mountaineer memory?

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Mountaineer sports throughout my childhood. Attending my first WVU basketball game as a student with a bunch of my new friends was an amazing experience. It felt surreal to be watching games in person that I would normally experience through TV or radio.

  • Why did you want to become a PSA?

I learned that public speaking gave me the chance to impact and motivate those around me during my first speaking engagement in high school. This experience also helped me to realize that I wanted my lifelong career to involve public speaking in some aspect. Finding the proper mentor was critical to my success. Dr. Atkins has worked with many students over the years to improve their presentation skills with great success. I knew that I would improve greatly under her guidance, which motivated me to take full advantage of this opportunity.

  • What did you learn from the PSA experience?

Prior to the first day of class, I was fully aware that my speaking abilities would expand; however, I did not identify that my leadership experience and skills would improve as well. Now, I firmly believe that I am prepared to lead my peers and others into informative challenges and experiences as a direct result of taking this instrumental class. I feel equipped to handle leadership roles in service organizations and collegiate clubs, but ultimately, I recognize that I will be prepared to be a leader in my workplace environment upon graduation.
