My choice to attend WVU was a last-minute decision. In high school, I was intensely struggling when thinking about what career path I wanted to venture down in my college journey. However, I ended up deciding on WVU. I'm from Fairmont so Morgantown is an extension of home to me. After I was given the opportunity to see the resources and the acclaim of WVU's School of Media, I was sold. I have a passion for journalism but I also have an intense passion for political science. Through my double major, WVU has allowed me extraordinary opportunities to explore both of those passions. The friends and the 'roots' I've been able to establish, not only because of my involvement but also because of the chances WVU has given me, make me feel welcomed and involved. That is why I'm happy I chose WVU.
What is your favorite Mountaineer memory?
There's no specific moment, but early fall season tailgates are some of my favorite experiences.
Why did you want to become a PSA?
The reason I wanted to become a PSA was centered around my wanting to give back. I've said before, the many opportunities I've been able to obtain because of this University and It's community. And so I want others to be exposed to those same opportunities I've had during my time here. Not only do I want to represent WVU better, but I want to represent West Virginia and its diverse community better.
What did you learn from the PSA experience?
From my PSA experience, I learned the importance and the need to make your audience feel something. Not only that, but I also learned the importance of the ways to most effectively organize a speech in order to deliver that information. This skill is so important to the future of my career, which banks on the ability story tell and connect with your audience. I can’t thank Dr. Atkins enough for her wisdom and guidance in the learning of these skills.
