WHY DID YOU CHOOSE WVU?

I chose WVU because I want to go to WVU School of Law. I have grown up and lived in West Virginia my entire life and have family from the tip of West Virginia in Hancock County to the bottom in Logan County. Growing up in a family saturated in Appalachia has exposed me to some of the downfalls of our region. Therefore, it is my goal to graduate from WVU Law to better suit myself to advocate and protect my fellow West Virginians. Choosing WVU for my undergraduate studies is the first step to reach my ultimate goal of becoming the first person in my family to graduate from law school. WVU represents all of West Virginia, just like I hope to do one day.

What is your favorite Mountaineer memory?

One of my favorite Mountaineer memories is celebrating with my Mother last summer when I was awarded the Blanche Haskins Lough Capicola Scholarship which covered the rest of my University tuition from the English department. It was a very exciting day for us and made all of my hard work during my first year worth it.

Why did you want to become a PSA?

I wanted to become a PSA because being able to represent WVU as someone from West Virginia is very exciting for me and for my family. Bringing pride to my university and to my family fulfills me. I knew this program would grant me opportunities and teach me skills I wouldn't be able to receieve other places. I was thrilled when I received my nomination for this program.

What did you learn from the PSA experience?

From my PSA experience I gained valuable insight into my leadership skills. My fellow PSA peers allowed me to compare my leadership styles with them to more fully understand what mine are. Additionally, my service activities during this course enhanced my community outreach and connections. Through the mentorship I received as a PSA from Dr. Carolyn Atkins I learned new skills for public speaking, closed captioning for accessibility services, and professional connections through curated course speakers selected by Dr. Atkins. I originally entered this program to further prepare myself for law school. And I can excitedly say that I feel that I have bolstered myself, my resume, and my skills to make me a better student, better citizen, and better West Virginian.
