Why did you choose WVU?

Being from a small town, a bigger university never appealed to me. Often speaking to friends who attended larger schools, they always made it seem as if they felt insignificant. After I visited WVU I realized the amount of effort put into every student, whether it be special events for the students, faculty who happily offer assistance, or the willingness to embrace one another at sporting events. I knew WVU would offer the larger university opportunities while still being treated like family.

What is your favorite Mountaineer memory?

My favorite Mountaineer memory has to be attending my first WVU football game as a student. Sitting in the stands, I was engulfed in an energy I have never felt before. The opportunity to be instantly accepted, a part of something bigger than myself, and yell as loud as I could, was refreshing after what seemed like a lifetime of quarantining. Singing “Country Roads” that day has been and will always be the day I knew I was meant to be a Mountaineer.

Why did you want to become a PSA?

Being a PSA is an opportunity to not only become a better leader, but to help others in the process. With this experience, I plan to share what it means to be a Mountaineer. As a PSA, I will serve in the local community, act as an upstanding representative of the university, and share my unique insight with fellow Mountaineers.

What did you learn from the PSA experience?

The PSA experience has not only taught me the importance of leadership, but the different forms. Just by acting as a positive role model you can change the surrounding atmosphere. The speakers and mentorship of the program allowed me to take deeper look into my own leadership practices. It has encouraged me to become an active listener and to improve upon my communication skills. It has also opened my eyes to the importance of building strong relationships which are required to become successful. With these newfound abilities, I will be able to make a lasting impact on the lives of others.
